Apple saw $67.9M in net bullish options premium today as repeated call buying clusters at the $325 strike ahead of the September 9 product launch.

The Flow Picture

Institutional options flow in AAPL tilted decisively bullish today, with net premium impact printing at $67.9M on the call side. That's a meaningful number for a name this liquid. Most of the activity clustered around a few strikes, and the pattern suggests accumulation rather than single large bets.

The largest concentration hit the November 20 $325 calls repeatedly. Four separate prints flagged under the RepeatedHits rule, totaling roughly $860K in combined premium across the session. Repeated hits at the same strike and expiry typically indicate a buyer working a size order in chunks to avoid moving the market. When you see four prints at the same strike across different timestamps, that's a signal worth noting.

The $325 strike sits right at today's closing price of $325.13, making these slightly out of the money calls that would need sustained upside to pay. The November expiry gives the position nearly three months of runway, which happens to capture both the September 9 product launch and the October earnings cycle.

Near Term Strikes Getting Attention

Shorter dated flow also showed up. The September 18 expiry saw hits at $337.50 and $340 strikes, with $150K and $180K premiums respectively. These are aggressive targets. AAPL would need to rally roughly 4% to reach the $337.50 level and nearly 5% for the $340 strike in just over two weeks.

The September 4 expiry, which settles this Friday, caught some action as well. A $130K call print at the $330 strike alongside a smaller $110K put at the same level. That structure could be a straddle or strangle leg, or simply hedging around short term binary risk. The put is the only bearish flow of any size in today's alerts, and at $110K it's a fraction of the call side activity.

With the stock trading at $325 and dealers likely short gamma in the $320 to $330 range given open interest distribution, moves through those strikes could accelerate as market makers adjust delta hedges.

Context: CEO Transition and September Launch

The flow arrives against an interesting backdrop. John Ternus officially took over as Apple CEO on September 1, succeeding Tim Cook after 15 years. Cook remains at the company, but the transition introduces headline risk that options markets tend to price.

More immediately, the September 9 product launch looms. Ternus called the upcoming iPhone release phenomenal in recent comments, which sets expectations high. The November $325 calls that saw repeated accumulation today would capture any post-launch momentum while giving the trade room to breathe if initial reaction disappoints.

Apple's last quarter showed strong results with revenue up 16% and iPhone sales up 22%, though the company guided to slower September quarter growth citing supply constraints and FX headwinds. The stock has traded between $315 and $327 today, recovering after a pullback from its July highs near $340.

What the Positioning Suggests

The concentration at the $325 strike for November expiry reads like institutional accumulation ahead of catalyst. Whether these are fresh longs or roll-ups from lower strikes isn't visible in the tape, but the repeated hit pattern argues against single speculative punts. Someone wanted exposure and didn't want to print a block.

The shorter dated $337.50 and $340 calls are more aggressive bets on a gap higher. Those strikes sit above AAPL's 52 week high of $344.57 and would require a strong reaction to the September event. Premium at those levels is cheaper in dollar terms but carries higher theta decay risk.

One caveat: bullish call flow can mask hedging activity. A fund long stock might sell calls against shares, and the buying side of that trade shows up as bullish flow. We can't distinguish directional bets from hedge legs on the tape alone. The $67.9M net premium figure is real, but interpretation requires humility.

Dealer Positioning and Levels to Watch

With significant open interest around the $325 strike, that level becomes a pivot for dealer hedging. If AAPL trades above $325 and call open interest dominates, dealers short those calls need to buy stock to stay delta neutral. That creates a tailwind as price rises.

Conversely, a break below $320 could see dealer hedging flip the other direction if put open interest picks up at lower strikes. The $330 level on the upside represents both a technical round number and where today's September 4 straddle activity centered.

Track the [Whale Alerts dashboard](/whalealerts) for continuation of the November $325 accumulation pattern. If similar repeated hits show up over the next few sessions, that strengthens the case for directional conviction. A flip to put flow or sudden call selling at those strikes would suggest the read needs revision.

Watch for September 4 expiry pin risk around $325 to $330 this week, and whether the September 9 event delivers enough to push the stock toward the $337.50 strikes that saw aggressive positioning today.
