AAPL Options Flow Nets $22.8M Bearish, but the Big Prints Are Small
A $0.30M November 340 call is the largest whale print, far short of the net premium reading

AAPL options flow nets $22.8M bearish, yet the largest whale print is a $0.30M November 340 call. The tape and the tally do not match.
The tally and the tape disagree
AAPL's net premium impact reads $-22.8M today, a bearish tilt. The eight whale-sized alerts on the tape add up to roughly $0.51M. The largest single print is $0.30M.
That gap matters. The bearish net figure does not come from the prints we can see individually. It comes from flow below the whale threshold, or from activity outside this list. We can't reconstruct it from eight small tickets, and anyone who tells you the list explains the number is guessing.
The $340 November call is the anchor print
The biggest contract is the $340 call expiring Nov 20, at $0.30M in premium. The stock trades in the low $340s, so the strike sits at or just under spot. Delta is roughly half, and the contract carries real time value.
The expiry also runs past Apple's Nov 2 earnings report. That makes it a candidate for a held-through-earnings position. It could equally be a stock replacement, a roll leg from an older call, or one side of a spread. Without knowing whether it traded at the bid or the ask, we can't call it bullish. A $0.30M call that traded at the bid is a seller, and a seller of a call is not bullish.
Same day expiry clutter at 340 to 345
Four of the eight alerts expire today. They are the $340 call at $0.05M, the $342.5 call at $0.01M, the $345 call at $0.02M and the $340 put at $0.02M. Each is small, and with hours left, gamma (the rate at which an option's delta changes) is at its peak. Dealers hedging these contracts have to adjust fast as spot moves.
A call and a put at the same $340 strike, both expiring today, look like a pair. It could be a straddle, a hedge, or two unrelated traders. Premium this thin buys intraday scalps, not conviction.
Friday expiry brackets the range
The Oct 16 contracts include a $342.5 call at $0.08M, a $350 call at $0.01M and a $335 put at $0.02M. The $350 strike sits just above the record high of $348.15 set Tuesday, and the $335 strike sits below the recent trading range. The three contracts bracket the stock on both sides.
That is the shape of range trading and protection. The $0.08M at $342.5 is the only meaningful size in the group, and it sits right at spot. Treat it as positioning for a move of a few dollars, not a view on earnings.
What would change the read
The $340 strike is the level to watch into today's close, since the day's expiring call and put interest clusters there. Above $348.15, the $350 call strike comes into play, and dealer hedging could add buying pressure. A stall near $345 leaves the bearish net premium looking more credible.
A large ask-side purchase in the Nov 20 expiry, well above $0.30M, would shift the read toward a directional earnings bet. Track new prints on the [Whale Alerts dashboard](/whalealerts), and watch whether the net premium figure keeps sinking while the visible prints stay small.
