TSM's options tape leaned bearish at $-63.6M net premium, with a $0.87M long-dated $410 put the standout after a record quarter and a weak AI tape.
The $410 June 2027 put is the print that matters
The largest whale-sized trade in TSM today was a $410 put expiring 2027-06-17, with $0.87M in premium. Everything else on the list is a rounding error next to it. The strike sits just under where the ADR has been trading, around $422 and down 1.8% on the session, so this is not a far out-of-the-money lottery ticket. It is protection or a directional view with real delta, and it runs eight months past the next catalyst.
Long-dated, near-the-money puts are what a holder uses to hedge a large position without paying for short-dated decay. They are also what a desk uses to express a view that the AI trade has a bigger air pocket coming. The tape alone can't tell us which one this was, and we won't pretend it can.
Net premium of $-63.6M, but not from these prints
Today's net premium impact for TSM is $-63.6M, a clearly bearish reading. The individual whale prints are far too small to explain that number. The eight alerts total roughly $1.2M, with the June 2027 put making up most of it. The rest of the skew comes from broader activity across the chain, which says the lean toward puts was wide and not concentrated in one block.
That distinction matters. One big print can be a single hedge. A negative net figure built from many participants looks more like a crowd repricing downside after a stock fell on the day it reported.
Downside strikes at $360 and a lone upside bet at $510
Two separate $360 puts expiring 2026-11-20 printed at $0.05M each. That strike is roughly 15% below spot and the expiry lands after the November monthly cycle, which makes it a tail hedge against a deeper unwind in AI hardware names. A short-dated $410 put for 2026-10-23 added $0.03M, a smaller bet on near-term weakness.
On the other side, two $510 calls expiring 2026-12-18 traded at $0.07M and $0.06M. That is about 21% above the current price, so these are cheap upside exposure, not conviction. Two $0.02M to $0.03M call prints at the $432.5 and $437.5 strikes expire today and mostly reflect intraday trading around the close.
The backdrop: a beat that didn't hold
TSMC reported third-quarter revenue of $46.72 billion and diluted EPS of NT$29.43, or US$4.60 per ADR unit, ahead of consensus. Gross margin came in at 66.4%, and management guided to 65% to 67% for the next quarter. The shares still slipped as a broader selloff in AI names, set off by concerns over CoreWeave's debt load, spread to hardware suppliers.
That is the tension in the flow. Fundamentals are strong, with 2-nanometer already at 8% of wafer revenue. But credit worries around AI cloud customers are a different kind of risk, one that earnings beats don't cure. The put buying reads as a hedge on that financing chain, not a call on TSMC's own demand.

What to watch over the next 2-4 weeks
The first marker is whether the AI credit scare fades or widens. If spreads on neocloud debt keep gapping, TSM's longer-dated put demand likely persists. If they stabilize, today's hedges look like routine post-earnings housekeeping.
Second, TSMC's monthly revenue release in early November will test whether the demand story is still intact. Third, watch the $360 strike into the 2026-11-20 expiry. If that open interest builds on further prints, the tail-hedge story gets stronger. If it stays at today's size, it's noise.
A sustained recovery in the semiconductor group would argue the bearish premium was positioning, not information.
